1. What new products does Shamrock Farms have?
New product lines are in the works all the time at Shamrock Farms. Here are some of the great new products you’ll see on store shelves.

Shamrock Farms Organic comes from our very own organic herd right at our farm. We’re the first and only dairy in Arizona to be offering organic milk so you know you’ll be drinking the freshest, most local organic available. Our organic milk is USDA-certified and made using the traditional pasteurization method. For more information on our organic line, check out our Web site at www.shamrockfarmsorganic.com.

Shamrockers™ is our new healthy milk made with flavor and nutrition that rocks! These 1% lowfat flavored milks are available in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. And, Shamrockers™ are made with less sugar and fewer calories than your typical flavored milk so mom's appreciate the nutrition and kids love the taste. Plus kids picked the name, so you know they’ll go for it in a big way.

Our kids panel, Roxie's Taste Buds, regularly help Shamrock Farms create some extra delicious, limited edition flavors. So far they have helped us develop popular flavors such as Chocolate Peanut Butter, Orange Cream, and the current flavor, Root Beer Float. And look for our newest flavor, Chocolate Mint, coming out this fall!

2. How can milk have an extended expiration date of up to two months?
Shamrock Farms now uses a new process called ultra-pasteurization - or extended shelf life (ESL) - to produce our single-serve milks and Half & Half (32 oz. size and smaller). This simply means the milk is heated to 285º F for four seconds, as opposed to traditional pasteurization, where the milk is heated to at least 170º F for a minimum of 20 seconds.

As a result of this new process and our airtight safety seal, our milk stays fresh on the shelves for twice as long. And it has allowed us to introduce Shamrock Farms milk in such exciting new places as vending machines, restaurants, theatres, baseball parks and more.

Remember, as with all of our farm-fresh dairy products, once you remove the freshness seal, we recommend you enjoy our milk within seven days.

3. How long do Shamrock Farms products last after the expiration date?
After the inner freshness seal has been removed from any of our dairy products, we recommend you enjoy the product within seven days (if product is handled appropriately). Traditional pasteurization, used with our ½ gallons and gallons, allows milk to stay fresh for up to 16 days. Due to our high-quality processing standards, if you open the seal on the expiration date, we guarantee it will last for seven days past then.

In regards to our single-serve bottles (32 oz. or smaller), the shelf life of unopened milk has now been increased beyond the 16 days of traditional pasteurization. But as always, once you remove the seal, please enjoy the milk within seven days. Ultra-pasteurization's new heating process allows the milk to remain fresh for up to 82 days on the shelf, opening up exciting new venues for milk.

4. Can I freeze any Shamrock Farms products?
For both safety and quality reasons, we do not recommend freezing any of our products (except for our Premium Ice Creams and frozen novelties, of course). Our packaging is not suited for freezing and we cannot guarantee that the product will remain at our standard of quality after freezing. The process of freezing, as well as keeping the product after its expiration date, might cause the texture, composition, or taste of the product to change.

Instead, we encourage you to enjoy the products within a week of opening the product's freshness seal. And for seasonal items, we suggest doubling up on your regular consumption so you can satisfy those cravings!

5. Why has the cost of dairy increased recently?
The cost of raw milk fluctuates on a regular basis and is set by the federal government to reflect the market's current supply and demand. Supply is down this year and there has been an increase in demand for cheese and butter. An increase in demand with no change or a decrease in supply will result in rising prices.

Since the base milk ingredient cost is higher, it directly affects the cost of all dairy products including cheese, ice cream, yogurt and others.

Additionally, consumers have seen record low milk prices during the past two years. And although milk prices are higher, it is still a great value compared to other beverage categories considering its health benefits. Milk is nutrient-packed and along with other dairy products, it’s still the easiest, most effective way to get the calcium that bodies need.

For more than 80 years, Shamrock Farms has been dedicated to providing consumers with the highest-quality farm-fresh dairy at the best possible price. We do this by regularly offering product coupons, working with retailers on in-store specials, developing new products and implementing the latest technologies. 6. Does the Extended Shelf Life (ESL) process change the makeup of the milk?
Milk is one of nature's most nutritious and refreshing beverages. Shamrock Farms is still delivering the same farm-fresh milk you've grown to love over the past 80 years, and the ESL process has no effect on its taste or contents. In fact, the only thing we add in some of our milks are the vitamin fortifications you can read on the label. For example, in our Fat Free Plus milk, we add 66% more calcium. And our 2% Vanilla single-serve milks are fortified with multi-vitamins and nutrients.

7. What is the purpose of the safety seal on Shamrock Farms mmmmilk bottles?
Due to consumer feedback, we have replaced the old foil safety seal with a new one, that you will find is much easier to remove. This seal is a standard industry seal, which allows us to guarantee the quality and freshness of our products, and also allowed us to enter new markets nationwide. This seal has proven to be the most effective for our line, and is also easily accessible to consumers.

As always, our goal is to create a product that is both safe and consumer friendly at the same time. Shamrock Farms will continue to strive to produce the most convenient products for our consumers.

8. Where does Shamrock Farms milk come from?
Shamrock Farms' herd of 10,000 cows is housed at our farm in Stanfield, AZ - just 54 miles from our Phoenix dairy processing plant. These cows are milked twice daily, and our insulated trucks transport an average of 47,000 gallons of farm-fresh milk to our processing plant every day. (When additional demand requires, we purchase quality milk from other independent Arizona dairy farmers to add to our supply.)

Shamrock Farms milk hits store shelves quickly from our local processing plant, making our dairy products truly farm-fresh.

9. Does Shamrock Farms offer tours?
Shamrock Farms has opened the doors for our second year of the Shamrock Farms Tour! Our Farm Tour is an entertaining and educational adventure, where families and students get to meet the 10,000 cows that make our dairy so special. 11. Why did 2% Reduced Fat Flavored mmmmilk replace the mmmmilkshake line?
At Shamrock, we’ve always been attentive to the needs and demands of our customers. And this change is a result of that. We reformulated our milkshakes to deliver that same great taste that consumers know us for and provide the best nutritional profile.

The name may have changed, but the farm fresh, great-tasting product hasn’t. Made with the most delicious 2% milk on the market, this line is available in 12-ounce size and four great flavors – Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and Dulce de Leche.

rBST Answers: * No significant difference has been shown between milk derived from rBST-treated and non-rBST treated cows.

1. Are Shamrock Farms cows treated with
the growth hormone rBST?

No. Shamrock Farms knows that the way we treat our cows will keep them producing the highest quality milk for Arizona families. There has been no proven significant difference between milk derived from cows treated with rBST and cows not treated with rBST.

Top

2. Why haven’t you treated your cows with rBST?

We have excellent milk production from our herd of more than 10,000 cows that thrive in their ideal living environment. Not only are they housed in a state-of-the-art facility, but they also are fed a special diet prepared by a nutritionist and kept at a cool 78 degrees at all times.

3. Are Shamrock Farms’ products hormone free?

It is impossible for any milk product to be hormone free. All cows naturally produce a hormone called BST. But if you are asking if Shamrock Farms uses synthetic growth hormones or rBST on our herd of 10,000 cows, we don’t. Never have, never will.

Top

4. What is BST and rBST?

BST is the naturally occurring hormone in cows that stimulates lactation. It is impossible for milk to be “BST’ free. rBST is the synthetic hormone that is supposedly identical to the naturally occurring hormone that if given supplementary to lactating cows it can increase milk production.
