Bashas' Teams Up with Shamrock Farms for Statewide Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
ARIZONA (Sept. 29, 2008) From now through the end of October, Bashas’ Supermarkets and Shamrock Farms are “going pink” to support City of Hope. Customers have multiple opportunities to get involved, including purchasing pink reusable bags, paper pink ribbons and signature City of Hope pins.
Bashas’ 74 supermarkets in Arizona are currently selling limited edition, pink reusable bags for $1.49 while supplies last. Shamrock Farms and Bashas’ will donate 100 percent of pink bag sales to City of Hope for breast cancer research, treatment and education.
“These pink bags are popular,” said Kristy Nied, director of communications for Bashas’. “Some of our stores sold out of them within hours. It’s a great sign that women in our community are committed to joining the fight against breast cancer.”
Additionally, from now until the end of October, Bashas’ stores are selling paper pink ribbons for $1, which can be personalized in honor of a friend, family member or loved one. And beginning Oct. 6, customers can purchase City of Hope pins for $2 to show support of the thousands of families affected by breast cancer.
In all, Bashas’ is hoping to contribute more than $50,000 to City of Hope efforts, with $37,250 coming directly from the sale of Bashas’ and Shamrock Farms’ pink reusable bags.
“This year alone, more than 182,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer,” said Meagan Snedeker of City of Hope. “The statistics are even more daunting when you consider the chance of a woman having breast cancer during her lifetime is about one in eight. It’s only through community support and funding such as this that we can help turn these stats around.”
In addition to the in-store activities, Valley residents are invited to join the Walk for Hope in Tempe this Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008. For more information, visit www.walkforhope.org/phoenix.
